The Defender has been a monumental part of the Land Rover lineup since its conception in 1947. Now over seven decades later, the 2020 Defender goes above and beyond everything you loved about this classic model, honouring the vehicle’s history for rugged solidity while thoroughly remaining a Defender for the 21st century.
Before it touched down in Saskatoon, the Defender underwent more than 45,000 individual tests and nearly 1.2 million real-world kilometers. But that is just the start of what makes the 2020 Defender the toughest Land Rover ever made.
Capable by nature
The 32” tires on the Defender are the largest of any Land Rover vehicle. The extra size of the tires works in concert with the all-wheel-drive to absorb shock, protect the integrity of the chassis to provide greater stability and control. Plus, electronic air suspension can raise your ride height an additional 2.7 inches, allowing drivers to get far off the beaten track and into nature’s playground. The Defender can even wade up to a depth of three feet, making water crossings possible.
The Land Rover Defender was built to be put to work and responds to the toughest of demands with its 8,201-pound Defender towing capacity. Advanced Tow Assist takes care of the counter steering which eases the stress of reversing a trailer. The Defender is also outfitted with a remote-control electric winch with a maximum pulling force of 10,000 pounds.
Blaze your own trail
The appeal of the Defender goes beyond its brute strength. Unlock its real-world practicality by exploring its onboard technology. Equipped with Pivi Pro, Land Rover’s most intuitive infotainment system ever, the Defender is always on and always ready. The at-a-glance layout can be customized to keep your favourite features easily accessible and use tap, swipe, or pinch-to-zoom gestures for simple map exploration. The Defender will also debut with Configurable Terrain Response as standard. This world-first technology allows the powertrain, steering, differentials, and traction control settings to respond to changes in terrain.
The Defender can also be equipped with ClearSight Ground and Interior Rear View to see through anything and everything obstructing your view. Through the use of 3D surround camera systems, the 2020 Defender illuminates all the areas that would otherwise be invisible to a driver.

Rugged and refined
The 2020 model possesses the same design language as the Defender’s that paved the way before them. The beauty of the Defender has always been how its heavy-duty power and responsive drive, is complemented by its go-anywhere-do anything attitude. Available in a two-door or a four-door variant, the cabin of the Defender serves as the base camp for your next adventure. Plus, standard fitted, rubber flooring throughout the cabin allows for easy cleanup.

PROUD PARTNERS
Tusk Trust has been one of our prized partners for over 15 years as they work to help protect African wildlife. So where better to put the Defender through additional tests? One of our prototypes went out there to tow heavy loads, wade through rivers and carry supplies across unforgiving terrain in a series of real-world trials at the Borana Conservancy in Kenya. As part of the field tests, the New Defender led a dramatic initiative to find a male lion so it could be darted and re-collared.
“This year marks Tusk’s Year of the Lion,” explains Tusk Trust CEO Charlie Mayhew, “Our aim is to raise awareness of the alarming decline in lion populations right across Africa and this high profile media initiative with Land Rover has given us a superb opportunity not only to showcase the work of Borana, but highlight the plight of Africa’s big cats.”
